Protect and improve our built and natural environment.
- Create empowered local communities with safe, people-friendly neighbourhoods
- Protect our coastline and greenspaces from inappropriate development and road building
- Promote and incentivise active travel and the greater use of public transport
- Protect and encourage biodiversity
Meaningfully address the energy crisis
- Press Sefton to produce a more coherent and demanding local climate action plan
- Prioritise the insulation of homes and other buildings in order to tackle fuel poverty and cut greenhouse gas emissions
- Promote and support local renewable energy projects
- Use properly informed citizen’s panels to address issues such the climate emergency, liveable neighbourhoods, speed limits, cycle lanes etc.
Promote sustainable and affordable housing
- Prioritise the building of homes on brown field sites rather than car-centric developments on low-lying Greenbelt sites typically away from any other supporting infrastructure
- Prioritise the building and renovation of affordable, energy-efficient, homes rather than new ‘Executive homes’
- Press for fair rents and ensure all properties are maintained to a good liveable standard.
A cleaner, Greener Sefton
- Continue to press Sefton to improve detection and enforcement against fly tipping and dog-fouling
- Tackle air pollution – This is a serious health issue in areas in the south of the borough
- Improve recycling rates from one of the worst in the country to one of the best
- Provide more street bins where there is an obvious need or a local demand
- Ensure these bins are emptied and that takeaway businesses take more responsibility for litter produced in association with their business
Advocate for fair, democratic representation
- The Green Party supports the use of a fair proportional voting system as this would empower voters and ensure councillors and MPs (of whatever party) are elected in proportion to the votes cast
- Proportional representation safeguards against single party domination based on a minority of the vote
- Few would claim long-term single party governance, locally or nationally, leads to good decision-making or political outcomes
