Pauline Hesketh

Meols: Local Election Candidate 2024

Pauline was born in Southport and has lived in Chuchtown and Marshside her entire life. She is married to fellow Green member Stephen who she met when they were at Stanley High School together. They have two married daughters and a granddaughter in education locally. Pauline has been an administrator in a local residential home for almost 30 years.

Pauline cares about our natural and man-made environments and, like almost every parent, guardian and grandparent, she is very concerned about the state of the planet we will leave to our children and grandchildren.

Pauline is a member of several conservation bodies, a regular walker and visitor to parks and the coast in Southport and neighbouring communities. She is concerned about speeding traffic and inconsiderate parking endangering pedestrians, cyclists and other road users. It is all too common to see parents with buggies and young children or mobility scooter users having to go single file – or even worse, being forced out onto the road, in order to pass badly parked vehicles.

As part of the Crossens Lidl development, Pauline would like to see a reduced speed limit at least to a point beyond where the coast road footpath, cycle lane, and the old sea bank footpath all cross this stretch of high-speed road. Attempting to cross the road at that point on busy days is a nightmare – vehicles approaching at over 50mph from both directions make it so dangerous.

Pauline would also like to see the frequently muddy track leading through ‘The Stray’ upgrading to a properly surfaced footpath in order to make it into a safe, useable, year-round route for both walkers and cyclists.
