Samantha Cook

Victoria: Local Election Candidate 2024

A resident of Crosby since 2013, Samantha is privileged to represent the Green Party as a local election candidate. Having moved to Liverpool in 2005 for university, her appreciation for the local energy, culture and values ensured that Liverpool would be her permanent home city.

Samantha is a lifelong advocate for animal welfare, sustainable living, and equitable education, and has strong links within the local community.

There’s so much more that Sefton could be doing to reduce, reuse, and recycle to limit our impact on our natural world. The short-sighted decision of the Labour-run council to suspend food waste collections is not a forward-thinking policy. Nor was the decision to close down the bring-bank recycling facilities, which has arguably led to an increase in fly-tipping and also means that some items that could be recycled are impossible for those without private transport.

As the Treasurer for a local allotment group based in Waterloo, Samantha’s primary concern is on increasing community engagement with sustainable gardening and growing practices. Finding opportunities to repurpose the unwanted and neglected is also a staple of allotment gardening, as well as raising awareness about the impact our lives have on the natural environment.

Improving student outcomes by supporting school staff has been a focus of her work in educational technology for the past 8 years. She has also been a governor for a primary school based in Waterloo since 2021, working with staff to ensure student success.

Samantha has advocated for animal rights in all respects, from sustainable and humane food production to the prevention of suffering and cruelty in domestic settings. Most recently, she has rescued a small flock of commercial (previously-caged) hens that now live a happy, free-range retirement in her garden.
